    To the Discussion Group,

What brand in power mortising chisels have you had good performance with?

I have seen a favorable review for CGG Schmidt. I see Fish mortising chisels and wonder if they would be as good as the bits that Rob has recommended.  I am currently using an economical set from Rockler with so so results and need to replace a damaged chisel so thought to ask this group.

Thanks for the input and Happy Holidays.

    George,

I have the premium set from Lee Valley.  They are really good.  I have a Powermatic 719T mortiser and have used them to make mortises from 1/4" to 1" without difficulty.  The mortises are plum and smooth.  They hold an edge well and are very easy to sharpen.  Sharpening is the key to all the bits.  Hope this helps,

    Tom

Hello, I also purchased some of Lee Valley premium chisels, very happy with them. I only have a small Steel City Tools mortiser and made some 2" deep mortises in oak and had no problems. Much better than the economy ones.

    Happy holidays, Mario
