Does anyone know of a source for a set of reasonable quality ten or 12 inch long brad point bits?

    Hi George,

The best source of brad point drill bits in Fuller, but I don't think they have any as long as 12" - they do have 10" on their website.  http://wlfuller.com/html/extra_length_brad.html

I have seen a number of videos about grinding regular drill bits into brad points though.  You may be able to get a 12" bell hanger bit and do that, check youtube.

    Hi George

I cannot speak to the quality but 12" brad points are advertised both by amazon and ebay.

As Tom says, Fuller in Rhode Island makes top notch products. I have a set of their normal length brad points and they are very high quality. I tried to attach their catalog to this reply but it would not work. You can download their catalog from their website. they sell through distributors including Woodcraft & Tools for Working Wood

The catalog shows brad points of 10" and 18" lengths. The 18" have flute lengths of 13"

Thank you Tom and Vic, I contacted Fuller and ordered the small set of long brad points.  The distributors don't carry the set and Lisa at Fuller Customer Service offered to take the order directly rather than have a distributor have to place a custom order.  I also order three long tapered bits for common screw sizes.  I am using them to avoid having the drill chuck bump into the 3 1/2 ' apron for a bench while fixing the cleat on to hold the bench seat.  Thanks again for the advice.

    George et all:

It's good you convinced them to sell directly to you!  The distributors they list don't always stock much - I've faced having to wait a really long time while they first sent them to a distributor who then sent them to me.

I tend to use allot of number size brad points and as far as I know Fuller is about the only one making them in the US.

The quality of the Fuller bits was very as you both described and I really like the the accomodation the folks made to provide the bits.  Thanks again for the support.
