Making the First Cut

Rob, I've been checking out the site,to get familiar with it, and kinda bouncing around on videos. So far my favorite was the "shop tour", you mentioned about some Birdseye maple I think. You said that you'll probably pass on without ever actually cutting it, almost like a fear or a worry of not using it well.

Now me personally, MDF or Plywood I can tear up and cut into no problem. But the red oak, pine, leopord wood and paduke... I can't do it! What do you do to " Make that First Cut?" From a beginners standpoint to the seasoned woodworker.

Is it in the layout? Plan drawings? Math and measurements?    Double, triple and quadruple checking?

Hi Jesse, all the above!  It takes a  lot for me to cut into some really nice wood, keep thinking I should be saving it for something better.  Got to remember we live in abundance, there is plenty more and it is always growing.  Cut away!
