I am preparing to begin the build on my first Scandinavian work bench. After watching most of the videos in the online workshop I noticed a lot of use of a no.7 or 8 jointer plane. Unfortunately the longest soled plane I own is a 5 1/2, will this be adequate? Or should I wait until I save enough for a jointer?

If a jointer is key which would be recommended a no. 7 or 8. I lean towards the no. 7 seeing that I can use the same blades as in my 4 1/2, and 5 1/2.

Thank you for the great site and wonderful resource knowledge you provide.

You do need a jointer and for the reason mentioned a #7 makes the most sense.  Length of sole will equate to straighter edges and flatter surfaces so I say wait!
