Just recently took a plane class at Woodcraft.  I have the Woodriver low angle block plane and a low angle jack plane.  They taught us the ruler trick but the instructor said that a low angle plane should not have a microbevel on the backside because they are bevel up planes.  Thoughts?

use the charlesworth ruler trick. Most guys will overly worry about the angles of their bevel. in reality its not that important. The ruler trick changes the angle so slightly that there will be no measureable difference in the resulting cut.
