Holding the spindle for shaping

I have a suggestion that might make it a little easier. This is what works for me. Take a large F clamp and clamp the spindle long ways. Then clamp the Fclamp into your shoulder vise. Use enough force on the F clamp to firmly hold the spindle in place but loose enough where you can still spin it around. That way instead of reaching for the vice handle every time to turn the spindle, you just turn it a ittle by hand. You can always adjust a little while its in the clamp. The best thing about it, is it makes it a few inches higher than the bench, so you can shape an entire half before you need to adjust at all. Try that and see how it works?
