I get asked a lot to recommend a spokeshave to would be spoon carvers, cabriole leg makers, etc. I was wondering if anyone has experience with and tuned up a Pinnacle No. 151 spokeshave from Woodcraft? Other than sharpen the IBC blade to shop ready, has anyone done any prep or enhancements to the sole, thumb screws, body, lever cap, or handles to improve the tool?

No experience with that specific tool, but what I have found with any tool is adjust and improve by using it. I know with my spoke shaves, I cleaned lubed and sharpened. I cut dipper grooves in the knurled screws, and around the throat I ran a file to remove any burs that could be sticking up. I never saw a need to flatten it or anything like that. Spoke shaves are meant to make flat stuff curved so why would it be important to flatten the sole? Other than that it has just been trial and error, and learning the personality of that particular tool.
